Job Description – United Nations
Roles and Responsibilities
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance of UN buildings, facilities, equipment, and infrastructure to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Conduct basic repairs in areas such as plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, painting, and general building maintenance.
- Inspect facilities regularly to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, and equipment malfunctions, and report findings to supervisors.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency repair situations as required.
- Assist with installation, movement, and maintenance of office furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with UN safety, security, and environmental standards during all maintenance activities.
- Maintain cleanliness and order of technical areas, workshops, and storage facilities.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance work performed, materials used, and issues identified.
- Coordinate with contractors, technicians, and other service providers when assigned.
- Support logistics and facility management teams during renovations, inspections, or special events.
- Uphold UN values, professionalism, and respect for cultural diversity at all times.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisors.
Minimum Necessary Qualifications
Education
- Completion of secondary education (high school diploma) is required.
(Technical or vocational training in maintenance, electrical, mechanical, or building trades is an advantage.)
Work Experience
- A minimum of 1–3years of relevant experience in building maintenance, facilities management, or a related technical field.
- Experience working in large institutions, compounds, or international organizations is desirable.
Technical Skills
- Basic to intermediate skills in one or more of the following areas:
- Electrical maintenance
- Plumbing
- Carpentry
- Painting and general repairs
- Ability to use hand tools and basic maintenance equipment safely.

- Good organizational and time-management skills.

Languages
- Basic knowledge of English is required.
- Knowledge of another UN official language is an asset.
Medical & Physical Requirements
- Must be medically fit to perform maintenance duties, including physical labor, as required by the position.
