Roles and Responsibilities
- Ensure the cleanliness, safety, and proper upkeep of UN premises, residences, facilities, or assigned areas.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including basic repairs, cleaning, and inspection of buildings, furniture, and equipment.
- Monitor facilities for safety hazards, report damages, and ensure timely maintenance or repairs.
- Assist with the setup and arrangement of rooms, offices, or common areas for meetings and official activities.
- Manage and monitor the use of utilities, equipment, and supplies to ensure efficient operations.
- Provide support services to residents, staff, or visitors while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
- Ensure compliance with UN safety, security, and hygiene standards at all times.
- Coordinate with supervisors, maintenance teams, or external service providers when required.
- Maintain records of maintenance activities and report issues to the relevant authorities.
- Uphold UN values, respect cultural diversity, and maintain a respectful working environment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisors.
Minimum Necessary Qualifications
Education
- Completion of secondary education (high school diploma) is required.
(Relevant vocational training in facility management, maintenance, or a related field is an advantage.)
Work Experience
- A minimum of 1–3 years of relevant experience in caretaking, facility maintenance, housekeeping, or a similar role.
- Experience working in institutional, residential, or international organizational settings is desirable.
Skills & Competencies
- Basic knowledge of building maintenance, cleaning procedures, and minor repair work.
- Ability to identify and report safety and maintenance issues promptly.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong sense of responsibility, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Ability to interact respectfully with staff, residents, and visitors.
- Physical ability to perform caretaking duties, including lifting and prolonged standing.
Languages
- Basic knowledge of English is required.
- Knowledge of another UN official language is an asset.
Medical & Physical Requirements
- Must be medically fit to perform caretaking and maintenance duties as required by the position.
